Jazz @ Green Hills Piano

Friday, November 27, 2009 7:00 pm CST

Description: Six String Jazz & Friends have been invited back to Green Hills Piano. Appearing Friday evening, November 27th, a band of rowdy jazz musicians will play tunes from such composers as Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Monk, Coltrane, and others from a bygone era.

Surrounded by more than a dozen fine pianos, beautifully restored to their former grandeur by Grant Huston, the band will bring life to such composers as Cole Porter, Count Basie, and Rogers and Hart that, like the pianos, were at the heart of accessible American music from the 1930s to the '50s. We play this music because it has proven its worth by surviving for many years, bringing joy and beauty to thousands of people.

The core group consists of Ned Ramage, guitar, Mel Nelson, piano, Robert Wolf, drums, Hugh Bramhall, congas, Ryan Murphy, guitar, Nels Noseworthy, baritone sax, and Wayne Renardson, acoustic bass.

Friends are invited to sit in. If interested in playing, contact Wayne Renardson for particulars or a setlist.

"One man gets nothing but discord out of a piano; another gets harmony. No one claims the piano is at fault. Life is about the same. The discord is there, and the harmony is there. Study to play it correctly, and it will give forth the beauty; play it falsely, and it will give forth the ugliness. Life is not at fault."
